Remember when you were 14 and wore a bunch of makeup so you’d look 20? Now that you’re (fill in the blank), you can use a little makeup to make you look younger – instantly!

We all know what we’re supposed to do to look younger: wear sunscreen every day, drink lots of water, get enough sleep, exercise, blah, blah, blah. That’s all well and fine for the long run, but what do we do about that date we have this weekend? Try these tips to make you look younger right now.

Lighten Up
Dark lipsticks can be quite dramatic, but seriously, lighter shades are much more appealing on the over-30 crowd. As you age, your lips become thinner, and a lighter shade of lipstick or lip gloss gives the illusion of plumper lips. If ‘bleeding’ lipstick and gloss is your complaint, using a lip pencil to fill in the lips can anchor your lip color while dabbing gloss to just the center of lips will make a big difference too.

Pass on the Powder
If you can skip powder, do it. Powder settles into fine lines and actually accentuate them. If you must wear a some, apply it sparingly and with a fluffy brush. Alternatively, blotting sheets are an excellent go-to for removing excess shine without disturbing makeup.

Convert to Cream
Cream blushes and shadows are best for aging skin. Why? Powders tend to settle into lines. (Didn’t you read above?) Creams will give you a softer, more glowing finish.

Polish Your Whites
Our teeth naturally get dingier over time (darn you, coffee and delicious red wine!), which can make you look older. Luckily, there are numerous at-home tooth whitening kits and toothpastes available at a variety of price ranges.

Blush Naturally
As you age, your cheeks take on a more hollow look. While that may be an acceptable look for supermodels, it doesn’t look so good in real life. To combat the hollow look, apply blush to the apples of your cheeks, and skip contouring the hollows. It will just make them look more hollow.

Beautify Your Brows
Shaping your eyebrows is a great way to give your face a little lift. But be careful not to over-pluck, which can actually add years. Your best bet is to visit a salon to have your eyebrows professionally shaped, but after that, you can do the upkeep yourself with a pair of quality tweezers. Filling them in is also a great way to look younger as women’s brows tend to thin and appear sparse over time. Keep it light, though! One shade lighter than your hair color is best- those with black hair or very deep brunettes should opt for medium browns, never black. Blondes look best with shades that have a little bit of green in them, like a khaki-taupe.

Go Out with a Bang
Are lines on your forehead getting you down? Get some bangs, my friend. Today’s most stylish bangs are long and side-swept, and can make you look considerably younger. Talk with your stylist to determine if bangs can work for you. If bangs aren’t right for you, maybe consider a little Botox.

Rays of Sunshine
Add some highlights to the hair around your face. It doesn’t have to be anything dramatic – in fact, subtle is best. This simple act will bring light to your faceArticle Submission, making you look well-rested and younger.
